  Listen to the interview…Segment 1.  Segment 2.

De Stewart learned about food growing up. First, with his Grandfather, who owned a fish and poultry market in Louisville. Then his Grandfather & his Dad opened a produce market. And his Mother was a typical southern country cook. He experienced the joy of food while raising his son as they experienced the sheer pleasure of growing and cooking with their own herbs and spices. De’s passion for “taking the common and making it uncommon” continues to this day as he and his wife, Susan, enjoy cooking for each other as well as for friends and family. De’s televised cooking series led him to begin selling herbs and spices at the Covington Farmer’s Market under the Col. De Ray brand. That proved so successful that he expanded into a full line of herbs & spices and now offers over 400 different culinary herbs and spices (over 100 of them being certified organic & kosher) ,as well as, an expanded line of Col. De Ray products at Cincinnati’s Historic Findlay Market.

Today, De shared a variety of really cool products from his shop:

Salt Blocks: these can be heated and used to cook food right on them. I am so enamored by this product, I can’t begin to tell you!

Sumac: A fabulous  flavor, found in a lot of middle eastern foods

Cardamom: De brought it in pod form, seeds and powdered.
