One way to protect our planet is to save water. Here’s a quick way to stop flushing resources- and money- down the drain: Fill a 1/2 gallon plastic bottle (with any paper labels removed) with a couple inches of sand or pebbles, add water to fill it, then re-cap it and place it in your toilet tank . You’ll save 1-2 gallons of water every time you flush, which translates to 350 gallons or more per month for the average family.

We are on a deep well, and the septic tank likes the additional water flow.
